Often neglected by the classical Martial Arts is the role momentum plays in an altercation. You have to understand the mechanics of momentum & how to receive & counter it's effects to your advantage. Very similar to the concept of "using your opponents strength against them" although that old maxim doesn't really tell the whole story. Not only should you train to maintain position & technique when a bigger opponent rushes & crashes his larger frame against you if your unable to evade, but how to also use his momentum(as well as your own) to get yourself to a better strategic position in relation to your opponent. Momentum is a big factor on your feet as well as on the ground. You can learn a lot about these principles from a good Judo,Jiu Jitsu,MMA or Wrestling Trainer. Marc MacYoung has many books exploring this topic in detail.
